Just in time for the World Athletics Championship in Eugene, Oregon, on this month’s Africa Is a Country Radio we’re taking look at the history of African athletics from a musical perspective. We start with the long time domination by North and East African athletes in distance running, and then consider the more recent successes elsewhere on the continent.

For this show’s format, we chose one song from the year each African country (who has one) won their first Olympic medal either on the track or in the field.
