Zim Ngqawana

Zim Ngqawana (b. 1959), a prominent figure in the second generation of South African jazz musicians, passed away on Monday.

Zim Ngqawana was a student of legendary figures such as Darius Brubeck, Yusuf Lateef, Max Roach, and Archie Shepp. Ngqawana’s musical influence extended to the next generation of artists, including Kyle Shepherd and Kesivan Naidoo. A devout Muslim, Ngqawana is set to be buried today in Johannesburg.
