Africans Prefer English Soccer

These scenes of Angolan football fans at the recent African Nations Cup captured by Al Jazeera may give the impression that Africans still value the continental game.

Actually they prefer English football, argues sports writer Simon Kuper in a recent Financial Times column.

“Barça is in my blood, Under my skin”

Dani Alves broke the hearts of Bafana Bafana fans in the Confederations Cup, so I should not having his picture up here.  But if you’re a football fan, then you’ll appreciate the photography of the team of Mike Diver and Pedro Aguilar. (The phrase in Catalan on his arms means just what the title of the post says.)

THE INDOMINABLE LION

CNN just published a list of the eleven players who dominated and defined football in the 2000s. Samuel Eto’o of Inter Milan and Cameroon and probably the best footballer out of Africa, is the only continental player that made the list. That’s deserved. Eto’o, by the way, is also the official face of next June’s World Cup in South Africa.

AFRICA’S WORLD CUP?

Tomorrow is the draw for the 2010 World Cup in Cape Town. Apparently Charlize Theron, the South African actress with the fake American accent will also be there. Can anyone explain that to me?
