Starting this morning, we begin our annual month-long break from this site (we’ll still be active on social media–Facebook and on Twitter and Twitter again). We’ll be back after Labor Day (the Americans’ poor excuse for May Day) at the start of September.  In the meantime, this is a good time to revisit our greatest hits from the last year. Here’s 10 to start you off:

Kenya’s first mockumentary takes on the world.

Neymar and the Disappearing Donkey

What Paul Simon really thought of Nelson Mandela

Happy Africans

I am a homosexual, mum.

Whining White People.

To Come Back from Qunu

Against the Gospel of “Africa Rising”

Tom Hanks, Captain Phillips and the “True Story” of Somali Piracy

The #BullshitFiles: Christina Aguilera feeds war-torn Rwanda

The Dangers of a Single Book Cover.

The #Bullshit Files: Mindy Budgor, ‘the first female Maasai warrior’

What’s wrong with the Germans.

When Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie met Sweden

The Cape Town company that designs and markets “slave ship” ironing boards and aprons

10 excuses most Dutch people make for racism

What they don’t tell you in the brochure about Stellenbosch

Belgium is an insular country. It lives like history happens outside of it.

Enough of the liberal pieties on Sochi and gay rights

In any case, feel free to read the whole archive.
