In this Weekend Bonus Music Break, No.23, features musicians as diverse as Ghanaian-Swiss duo, OY, to familier sightings on Africa Is a Country: Spoek Mathambo and Sinkane.

Ghanaian-Swiss singer, Joy Frimpong of OY, performing "Halleluja" live (Screen grab).

To start this week’s music break: “Halleluja” by Ghanaian-Swiss OY, fronted by Berlin-based Joy Frempong, breaks down hair politics over a church loop, while standing in an empty swimming pool. Then, Ghanaian-Canadian singer-songwriter Kae Sun brings “Ship and The Globe,” the debut single off his forthcoming LP “Afriyie.”

Chicago has its very own Shrine. Yasiin Bey  and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble equals Fela Kuti’s ‘Water No Get Enemy‘ (ht Okayafrica).

Shot in Arusha, Tanzania, here’s the video for Joh Makini and Dunga’s ‘Sijutii.’

From Senegal, a new video for Pape and Cheikh’s ‘Lonkotina.’

Sudan-born multi-instrumentalist Ahmed Gallab aka Sinkane (he has worked with groups like Yeasayer and Caribou; I blogged about him a lifetime ago) has a new music video. Question: Is this first video from his new record “Mars,” a Steve Miller tribute?

From Soweto, The Federation’s smart self-marketing halfway through their new video.

Spoek Mathambo’s “Stuck Together.”

Copenhagen-based duo Okapii say they’re trying to explore West African vibes “and other nice things” in ‘Don’t Mind the Rain‘. Kinda see what they’re getting at … not unlike Brussels-based Débruit  who released another far-out but quite beautiful video to go with one of his tracks off “From the Horizon,” no prizes for recognizing the samples.
