  1. There aren't elephant there now I wouldn't be certain that there never were. This site suggests that there were elephants in the Karoo about 150 years ago, and that some were reintroduced about six years ago onto a private game reserve, but the original link is dead: http://www.elephant-news.com/index.php?id=521. A discussion on the San Parks forum said there are some in the karoo (flora/veg) area of the Addo Elephant Park.

    Elephants live in harsher areas. There are elephants in the Kalahari Desert, the Makgadikgadi salt pans and in the Kaokoland and Damaraland regions of north-west Namibia.

    So why couldn't there be elephant in the Karoo, except that the farmers would never stand for it?
