As the euphoria dies down, it might be important to recall that we are dealing with at least two Qaddafis: the first, the Qaddafi of 1969-1988, was the anti-imperialist and the nationalist who was yet unsteady about the importance of democracy; the second, the Qaddafi of 1988-2011, was the neo-liberal privatizer and the collaborator with imperialism (notably its war on terror). NATO has killed the first Qaddafi; will the Libyan people slay the second.”

Old and new butcher – and NATO helps
Horrible horrible picture — already seen everywhere — did you need to post it here? News porn, in my view.
Did NATO kill Gaddafi? Not the way it looked on TV, are you saying that the Libyans who overthrew his regime and then fought their way into Sirte were not really Libyans, not really fighting for their own country?
Don’t get the point about “two Gaddafis”, it goes over my head. One man, changing across the years, and probably by the end not entirely sane. However many Gaddafis you want to say there are, or were, or have been, I think they are all dead now.
Agree w/ S Phillips about the picture. sheesh.
But I would like to read more about the 2 Qaddafis – any suggestions? What happened in 1988?
Gaddafi was helping Africans control Africa which is why he was taken out. Obama was put in because Western imperialism needs a Black president as a fig leaf for military control of Africa. Look to Herman Cain as the U.S. next president (prophetic last name)
