Just in case you thought we were done with Official 2010 World Cup songs here at Africa is a Country, I’m here to remind you that we aren’t. Today, we bring you R. Kelly (Kells!) and the Soweto Spiritual Singers with “Sign of a Victory,” which is apparently the Official 2010 World Cup Anthem, not to be confused with the Official 2010 World Cup Song. I like to think of it as “I Believe I Can Fly,” the Africa remix. In Kelly’s own words:
I feel blessed that ‘Sign Of A Victory’ was selected to be part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The FIFA World Cup is an event that brings the world together and inspires us to be and do the best we can. It’s this uplifting feeling that I tried to capture in the song. It’s also a great honor to perform with the Soweto Spiritual Singers. They represent the best of South Africa and I’m proud to work with such a talented group.
Enjoy.

iLike this, stuff Shakira’s crap. However I do wonder what does global warming have to do with the World Cup? IMO it would have been nice to have a South African artist *alongside* Kells and the choir (Jimmy Dludlu wouldn’t hurt or some1 on vocals ). FIFA seems to have some deep problems with representation…but still iLike.
@KonWomyn: haha. that was my first thought too! er, global warming? but yes, i’ve always found it hard to resist Kells
Really, R.Kelly – the guy who’s had several run-ins with the law, namely because of child porn? I know it was a few years back and the evidence is shaky…but really, they couldn’t find anyone else…anyone?
…shakes head…
