Recently The New York Times published a list of ‘The 31 Places to Go in 2010.’ Only one African destination made the list. Predictably South Africa. Specifically Cape Town and wildlife Safaris. They made it at number 22 in the “Waiting in the Wings” category. It’s tourism of course.

South Africa’s the only sub-Saharan destination on the list. Marrakesh is at #16. Not that it matters, the list looks like a bunch of bullshit anyway.
Oops.
I agree on it’s irrelevance.
In fact, from my own limited travels, I would put down Dakar and Maputo.

I don’t quite get the often repeated references to how great Cape Town’s nightlife and restauarants are. Except for less than a handful of places, most nightspots are bland imitations of the type of mediocre place to be found in most European and US small towns.
