The work of my friend, the photographer (and South African political and social commentator) Suren Pillay.
These are from black and white images of South African jazz musicians taken over the last decade. He has kindly allowed me to post here. (Suren hopes to exhibit them publicly somewhere soon).
The first photograph is of guitarists Jimmy Dludlu and the late Gita Baloi in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape in 1997. (Both men were born in Mozambique).

Khaya Mahlangu from Sakhile, taken at a concert in the Company Gardens, Cape Town, 1998.

The bassist Spencer Mbadu, date unknown.

Felt really sad when saw Gita Baloi in this (great) photo – what a loss!
